Description

LET'S DRAW! is an educational drawing program for children ages 3.5 to Grade 6 designed to develop confidence, critical thinking and patience in a safe and fun environment. Programs not only improve drawing skills but may also improve scholastic performance. Drawing is an important skill that helps children develop fine motor skills, patience and imagination and provides a wonderful outlet for expression. Sessions are lead by a trained drawing facilitator. Students will be lead through a process to draw a fun image, while learning about the subject and composition. We will brighten up our pieces by adding colour while learning about colour theory and techniques. Students will explore their creativity by selecting colours and unique settings appropriate to the image to really make it their own. Children will work towards developing their skills and style while exploring a variety of mediums, including markers, crayons and pencil crayons. Your aspiring artist will bring home a different masterpiece at the end of each class that you will be proud to display. Sessions are designed and facilitated by Alana Delisle, a trained drawing coach. Inspiration for the LET'S DRAW! programs comes from past experience with children in and out of drawing programs as well as artistic and educational experience. Alana recently completed EMR training, along with CPR and AED and has recent criminal record and a Manitoba Child Abuse Registry check. Alana believes that all children can draw and provide a positive and nurturing environment to do so - while having fun! All materials and supplies are included in the cost of the session. No change of clothing is needed. Your budding young artists need to bring nothing more than a readiness to have fun and learn. So come on, LET’S DRAW! Enroll today at LetsDrawWinnipeg.eventbrite.com Here’s some info about my philosophy, training, experience teaching drawing. I was trained by a wonderful franchise in Alberta called Young Rembrandts and found that I loved teaching drawing so much that when I moved to Winnipeg in Spring 2014, I decided I wanted to carry on doing so here. I am a lover of drawing, art and all things creative; previous Registered Dental Assistant and trained EMR; fan of creative expression, art therapy and psychology; life long learner and asker of Why?; student of leadership, meditation and yoga; aspiring facilitator of growth and positive change in others. I create a safe and positive space for children to learn, create and explore. My philosophy is that everyone can draw and I strive to provide a safe, positive and supportive space for children to explore drawing and colouring methods and techniques. I believe that learning to draw opens many doors including increasing scholastic performance as well as enabling children to express themselves in ways they may not have the language or emotional capacity for. Working with Young Rembrandts I learned to work with a group of children in a class setting and to teach a specific step by step process to drawing. I have studied Mona Brooks' best selling book Drawing with Children. Mona Brooks' approach to teaching drawing has taught me how to develop more realistic drawings and creativity from children, with more variety of images and allowing each child to focus on really developing their skills, style and problem solving skills. I plan to attend Mona Brooks' drawing instructor internship training program later this year. This summer I will begin an online training program called Foundations of Teaching for Learning offered by Commonwealth Education Trust on Coursera.com and am excited to learn more about teaching children. I trained as an ESL instructor and have experience working one on one with children in the dental office during 7 years as a Registered Dental Assistant. By request I will provide a recent CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK with a vulnerable sector search and Manitoba child abuse registry check. Two years ago I completed emergency medical responder training, which is basically advanced first aid, I have current CPR and AED. Here’s a bit more of a bio & what lead me to teaching drawing. I recently moved back to my hometown, Winnipeg after being in Calgary for 3 ½ years. I became a dental assistant in 2007, thinking I would feel rewarded helping people with their health and that it might satisfy my need for creativity, as I would be working with my hands, tools and a variety of materials. I quickly found this wasn't the case and I gravitated towards positions where I could either work one on one with children or where the focus of the office was holistic based. I was fascinated learning about and practicing ways to motivate children and how to help them with their health. Over time I developed some nerve problems in my arms, as sadly many who work in the dental field do. This became relatively debilitating and I found myself in need of a new career. What a great opportunity to find something more fulfilling. I think it was the universe pushing me in the right direction! While I was off work due to the problems I had with my arm I did a lot of soul searching and realized what I want most is to work with people in a way that helps them on a personal level, inspiring and developing confidence, making their lives better. Since I had favored working with children and knew this was a direction to follow. Wanting to keep a creative aspect to my work I looked for programs that taught art, music or anything creative and inspiring that would build children up! I found a fantastic drawing program called Young Rembrandts that was looking for instructors and I was so excited when they asked me to work for them. I loved every minute of it! Various changes happened in my life and I decided to move back to Winnipeg, sad to leave this wonderful job I had found. Since there was no other program in Winnipeg that seemed similar I decided to have a go at it on my own here. I have made changes to the way I teach since then, based on experience, preference and further learning. I love working with children. Seeing how their confidence grows when they see their own improvement is an amazing experience. I truly believe there are many benefits to knowing how to draw and that skills developed by drawing help in a variety of aspects of life. I love seeing the pleasure of friends and family, children and adults, after working with them to draw an image they didn't know they could draw! I love what I do! I'd love to hear your feedback! If you have any suggestions or ideas that would help make this program better or more accessible please let me know! Your opinion is important and helps me make the program better!
