Life Pieces To Masterpieces is a safe sanctuary for hundreds of African American young men and boys growing up in Washington, DC’s most poverty-stricken and volatile neighborhoods. In a city with the highest rate of poverty in the United States, there is an urgent need for this loving and supportive environment for turning expressions of fear and anger into hope and joy. More than 90 percent of our Apprentices live in Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, DC. They represent the more than 45,000 predominantly African American children under age 18 that live in the area. Research shows that these two wards are underserved and plagued by a myriad of social, physical, and mental health programs including gang activity, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, violence, and incarceration. These problems are compounded by a lack of positive male role models. 75 percent of households are headed by single females. Our after school and weekend programs provide Apprentices with daily homework assistance, leadership development and meditation. We connect our Apprentices to the broader world for career and learning opportunities.Company Rating
