Description

"Dedicated to Healthier Legs for Life" for patients at risk, or with, active lower limb ulceration. Through innovation, research and education. Lincoln Leg Clinic is a new exciting clinic in Lincoln. Registered with the Care Quality Commission in July 2013. Recognising a need for specialist leg ulcer care in the district, the clinic has been developed by directors Lindsay Hunter, leg ulcer nurse specialist and Mr John Clarke, clinic manager. Lindsay has over 20 years experience in the care and management of lower limb disorders having previously worked as vascular nurse specialist in Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead NHS Trusts, clinical vascular nurse at The John Radcliffe, Oxford and most recently 9 years working with the Dermatology team in Warwickshire. Originally from Lincolnshire, Lindsay moved back to the region in September 2012 and decided to draw upon her past experience and enthusiasm to deliver consistent personal care for patients with lower leg ulceration. The Lincoln Leg Clinic provides a centre of excellence in Lincoln. Lincoln Leg Clinic is a nurse led centre providing research based, personalised care in comfortable, private and safe surroundings. Lindsay is enthusiastic and dedicated in providing excellent patient care. She believes that successful healing and prevention of recurrence is achieved by working in partnership with the patient, general practitioner and carers. What Does the Leg Ulcer Clinic do? Many people have lower leg problems, for many different reasons. Very often swelling, skin breaks and infections develop into an ulcer (a leg ulcer is commonly described as any skin break below the knee that hasn't healed in six weeks). It is the aim of the clinic assessment and investigation to identify the cause of the problem and to work with the patient to develop an individual care plan to heal the ulceration and prevent reoccurrence. Lincoln Leg Clinic has excellent facilities which allows us to determine the cause of your ulcer/ wound. There are approximately 3% of wounds which unfortunately cannot be healed, however the clinic can still provide treatment to improve your symptoms, such as reducing pain and odour resulting in healthier legs for life. Can the Lincoln Leg Clinic Help Me? The first step is to make an appointment for a comprehensive wound assessment. Once we have completed this assessment we will discuss treatment options with you and, if you wish, provide you with a plan of care. If you would like to discuss the problem with the leg ulcer nurse prior to making an appointment for an assessment, we provide a free 10 minute telephone consultation. Making an Appointment. In the future we are hoping that you will be able to be referred to the Lincoln Leg Clinic by your General Practitioner. This at present is very much dependant on local NHS commissioners who are currently looking at leg ulcer provision in Lincolnshire. You can still discuss this with your GP and it may be possible for them to write a letter regarding your past problems and history that you could bring to the clinic. To make an Appointment Contact the clinic using one of the following; -Telephone 01522 394022 or -Click on the contact form on the home page or -Write to Lincoln Leg Clinic, 509 Newark Road, Lincoln, LN6 8RT or -E mail lincolnlegclinic@hotmail.com We look forward to hearing from you. What will happen when I come to the Lincoln Leg Clinic first Assessment? The clinic will give you a warm welcome in a comfortable, safe and private environment. You are very welcome to bring a friend/ carer/ family member with you for company and support. The leg ulcer nurse specialist will greet you and ensure that you are comfortable. Your first visit will last approximately one hour, during this time the nurse specialist will ask you questions and carry out an assessment. You will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. You may find it useful to write down any questions before you come to the clinic so they don’t get forgotten on the day. Written information will be available for you to take home. Will I need to come back to the Clinic? This will be dependent on your wound, however you will always be seen by the same nurse on each visit to ensure continuity of your care.
