Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides assists Canadians with a medical or physical disability by providing them with a Dog Guide at no cost. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a national charity dedicated to providing Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities. Since 1983 more than 2,000 men, women and children have received a Dog Guide at no cost, even though the process of raising and training each Dog Guide costs approximately $25,000. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides does not receive any government funding and relies on the support of fundraising events and donations from service clubs, corporations, foundations and individuals across the country. As the largest school of its kind in Canada, Dog Guides Canada currently has five training programs in place: Canine Vision, Hearing Ear, Special Skills, Seizure Response, Autism Assistance, and Diabetic Alert. Each Dog Guide is trained to address the specific needs of their handler to ensure they offer them greater safety, independence and mobility.
