<p>The <b>London Chest Hospital</b>, located in <a href="/pages/w/109318469087142">Bethnal Green</a> in <a href="/pages/w/104209366281077">London</a>, adjacent to <a href="/pages/w/132038156834575">Victoria Park</a>, is a hospital run by the <a href="/pages/w/212573715535989">Barts Health NHS Trust</a>.</p><p>It has a national reputation for cardiac treatment.</p><h2>History</h2><p>It was founded in 1848 by <a href="/pages/w/160265297485669">Thomas Bevill Peacock</a>, and first opened in 1855.</p><p>On 1 April 2010, LCH Radio broadcast its first shows to the hospital's patients. LCH Radio is one of only a few hospital radio stations to broadcast on an FM bandwidth, the first being Radio Lonsdale at <a href="/pages/w/144131115600757">Furness General Hospital</a> in <a href="/pages/w/103125743061619">Barrow-in-Furness</a>.</p><p><a href="/pages/w/108496292509077">Fabrice Muamba</a>, the Zaire native who played for England's <a href="/pages/w/114738411875668">Bolton Wanderers</a>, was taken here after suffering a <a href="/pages/w/109557635730584">cardiac arrest</a> on the pitch on 17 March 2012; after going without a heartbeat for 78 minutes and being kept anesthetized so he could recover. He has made substantial progress and is now out of hospital, but was forced to retire from football.</p><p>, Barts Health NHS Trust plans to relocate the specialist cardiac services in 2015 to <a href="/pages/w/112712998742664">St Bartholomew's Hospital</a> in the City, and to sell the premises. Local campaigners are opposing the closure which was approved by NHS England in July 2014. The plan is that Barts Heart Centre will be formed from the merger of the London Chest Hospital and the <a href="/pages/w/151505344889432">Heart Hospital</a> (Westmoreland Street - part of UCLH) into the existing Barts cardiac services to create one of Europe's largest and most modern cardiac hospitals.</p>
