Description

Laser Tattoo Removal Change is inevitable. There are many different reasons for wanting to modify or remove a tattoo and people now have an option if they are not willing to live with it. Upon application, as the tattoo ink is injected into the skin, the pigment becomes encapsulated in a band of collagen , and is too large to be removed by the body immune system. Using an Active Q-Switch Nd: YAG laser to remove the tattoo is acknowledged and considered by dermatologists as the " Gold Standard" treatment for tattoo removal. Its efficiency and safty have been proved in numerous clinical trials, and outcomes are reliable with little to no evidence that the tattoo ever existed. Consulation Procedure Prior to treatment, a free consultation is carried out in which your medical history is taken to confirm suitablility for treatment, there is also an opportunity for any questions you may have to be answered. Before treatment can start you will be asked to give informed consent ( this will not be done until you are fully informed and happy to proceed) . The next step is to make 3 small test patches to find out which setting is most suitable for your skin and tattoo. There is a small charge of £15 for this but this amount will be deducted from your first session if you choose to book in a minium of 3 sessions. Once the result is back from the test patches ( minium 24h ) you will be ready to start your treament. How does Laser treatment work on tattoos ? Active Q-Switch Lasers generate a high powered beam of laser light in an xtremely short pulse and is absorbed by the tattoo ink particals, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to disperse the ink. As the ink particles are removed, the tattoo begins to fade. How is the treatment carried out ? The skin will be cleaned and then the laser is passed over the tattoo releasing quick pluses of light. An audible "clicking" noise is heard as the ink particals shatter. After treatment a light dressing may be applied if necessary. During treatment protective eyewear will be provide. Is the tattoo removal laser dangerous ? Tattoo removal lasers are very safe for use when used by a trained laser operator with proper safety equipment. The radiation emitted by a tattoo removal laser is non-ionizing and carries no risk to cancer or other abnormal cell growth. The procedure is non-surgical, and non-invasive. Does it hurt ? Lasers will cause some discomfort and it is usual to experience a small amount of pain in the area afterwards. The laser pulses have been likened to having your skin "pinged" with a elastic band, this is usually tolerated by most people without any anaesthetic. However, some areas are more sensitive to others, especially around the ankles or the shoulder blade. Fortunately, the discomfort does decrease as treatment progresses and the tattooing fades. Most people will be able to tolerate the treatment but local anaesthetic cream can be used if required. How does the the skin look after treatment ? Straight after treatment the area will feel hot and skin will form small white " blisters" these are water vapour spots created by the intense heat under the skin, and might be flat or slightly raised. This is a good sign that the treatment is working. These white spots start to fade quickly and the remaining ink will start to show through. Will the Laser Treatment leave a scar ? Not normally, it is very unusual to develope any scarring but possible , especially with poor aftercare ( there is a reported 5% chance of scarring following tattoo removal treatments) but this can normally be avoided with good aftercare, and the low pulse laser we are using reduces the risk of scarring. We sell a great after care cream that will help with the healing as well. How many treatments are necessary ? This depends on several factors, including the density, colour of inks and the age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos can sometimes be harder to remove if the tattooist has injected the ink to deep but at the same time some amateur tattoos are easier for the same reason ( injected to shallow) this we can determine with a patch test. In general if its an easy tattoo to remove you are looking at 1-6 treatments, whereas professinal tattoos vary considerably but most will typically take 8 - 12 treatments if you want them removed completely. If you wish to just fade the tattoo enough so you can make a great cover up then normally 2-3 sessions is enough. How long does each session take ? Usualy between 5 - 30 minutes, longer sessions could cause to much skin trauma so are not recommended , larger tattoos need to be treated in several separet sittings. Depending on the tattoo and result required ( removal or cover up ) up to 12 or more sessions may be required. Treatment sessions are a minium 6 - 8 weeks apart.
