Circumcision Benefits Outweigh Risks, Study Reports -Mayo Clinic, Reported on NY Times http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/04/07/circumcision-benefits-outweigh-risks-study-reports/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0 After thousands of years science begins to understand the secondary benefits of one of our most precious mitzvot (commandments) namely, Brit Milah! Eventhough, we don't perform Brit Milah for its secondary benefits, rather because G0d has commanded us, its good to see that " G0d does not hold back good from those who go in His ways." The only negative implication of this could be if one day circumcision becomes standard like vaccinations, Brit Milahs could be performed by doctors who are otherwise unqualified as a Mohel which is already the case to some degree especially in Los Angeles. I will be discussing more on the similar findings of American Pediatric Society and why the benefits of a medical circumcision still does not match a Traditional Brit Milah in the future posts. Facebook.com/DrMohel DrMohel.com “Male circumcision is in principle equivalent to childhood vaccination,” said the lead author, Brian J. Morris, emeritus professor of medical sciences at the University of Sydney. “Just as there are opponents of vaccination, there are opponents of circumcision. But their arguments are emotional and unscientific, and should be disregarded.” "The benefits of circumcision begin in the neonatal period by protection against infections that can damage the pediatric kidney. Given the substantial risk of adverse conditions and disease, some argue that failure to circumcise a baby boy may be unethical because it diminishes his right to good health. There is no long-term adverse effect of neonatal circumcision on sexual function or pleasure. The affirmative 2012 American Academy of Pediatrics policy supports parental education about, access to, and insurance and Medicaid coverage for elective infant circumcision." DrMohel.com
