General Info

LASPD EXPLORERS History The Los Angeles School Police Explorer Post was established in May 2003 to acquaint youth with a career in law enforcement and involve them in a positive civic relationship. The program started with twenty explorers and is currently at one hundred. Police Explorers are given the opportunity to work assignments and activities within Los Angeles communities. An important aspect of the Police Explorer position is the mission to educate young women and men interested in a law enforcement career. The few explorers who do not continue on with law enforcement careers maintain the skills learned throughout their lives. Activities One of the best aspects of this program is physical fitness. The training consists of a variety of exercises including push-ups, sit-ups, mountain climbers and running. The enthusiasm to be the best encourages Police Explorers to go beyond what is average. Police Explorers have the opportunity to participate in nationwide competitions against other explorer posts every year. They dedicate their time to training for scenarios of their choice, which include building searches, traffic stops, domestic violence investigations, crime scene investigations, and many other law enforcement related scenarios. At the core of being a Police Explorer is volunteering time to improve the quality of life in a community. A major activity every month is helping under privileged children and the homeless throughout the city of Los Angeles. In this way a Police Explorer knows she or he has made a difference in someone’s life when others have not. In order to sustain expenses, explorers are involved in fund raising. This includes working events such as football games at the Rose Bowl, parades, concerts, and school fairs. Are you up to the challenge? Become a Police Explorer today! Requirements Age 14-20 Maintain a school grade average of “C” or better No criminal history Parental permission Pass a background investigation Participate in all Explorer activities - some of the most challenging events of your life!
