We have had some questions lately regarding our donations policy, and wanted to clarify for everyone: First, let us assure you that ALL money collected on behalf of any charity is given to the charity. The Funeral Home does not keep any portion of the funds. If you donate by cheque, the cheque is made payable to the charity, and cashed by the charity. They are the ones who provide you with a receipt. If you donate cash, the total amount of cash donated to each charity is calculated at the end of the day and a cheque is issued from Lougheed’s to the charity for the total amount. A copy of each of the temporary receipts that we issued is given to the charity so that they can provide official tax receipts. For example, if Leonard Nimoy had had his services with us, and asked that donations be directed to the Maison Vale Hospice, this is how it might have played out: - $950 worth of cheques are written by individual donors - $1,250 is donated in cash Lougheeds would then send to the Maison Vale Hospice an envelope containing the $950 in cheques, a cheque from Lougheed’s for $1,250, and the receipts for that $1,250 so that each individual donor could be issued an official receipt. No portion of donated funds is ever kept by the Funeral Home. We hope this sets your minds at rest.
