LOVING ARMS’ vision is to not only assist families by meeting their immediate needs of food, education and medical and dental care but to enable them to become self sufficient by providing sustainable income-generating opportunities. When the Loving Arms' property in Guatemala is fully developed, the 6 surrounding villages will be serviced by their clinics, training and children’s home. LOVING ARMS sponsors 117 Children each month by providing food, shoes, clothing, medical and dental check-ups, and gifts for special occasions. They have 24 students enrolled in their scholarship program at various stages of education. Over the past several years, they have provided 1000 school bags containing supplies essential for allowing Guatemalan children to attend school. LOVING ARMS is a registered Canadian Charity and has taken more than 300 volunteers on teams to Guatemala over the past 5 years. General Info

Loving Arms, founded in 2005, became a registered Canadian Charity in 2008. Our work is based on two key principles: 1. To provide income-generating opportunities to enable self-sufficiency. 2. To provide programs to meet the basic necessities of life while giving hope for an improved future In the last eighteen months Loving Arms has provided 13 income-generating opportunities that involve over 80 families in 4 different indigenous mountain villages. These initiatives included agriculture, animals and women’s co-operatives with our newest being a mushroom farm pilot project and soon to be a Dairy Farm pilot program. Garden Plots involving 26 families in the villages Chitaburuy, Paraxaj and Parramos; 20 Pigs for families in Parrojas and Parramos; Sewing 18 women of Paraxja; Weaving 12 women of Parrojas and 10 women of Chitabury, The on-going programs that support the children's day-to-day needs include: food, shoe and clothing distribution: this activity is handled by teams as part of their work while in Guatemala. Sponsorship program – 128 children are sponsored. This gives them a food basket each month, shoes for school, medical & dental check-ups, & gifts at birthdays & Christmas. Stoves started on May 2010 to February 2012 with a total of 220 built to date. Water filters: 115 built and installed in Parrojas, Paraxaj, Corrales and Chitaburuy School supplies: In 2010 we gave out 270 school bags(complete with note books, pencils, pens, & crayons) in 2011- 330 school bags and this year 400 school bags. The school year begins in January and runs until late October. If a child does not have his/her own supplies they cannot attend school. Homes – so far 24 have been built with almost as many furnished Scholarship program has 24 students at various stages of education (3 of which are in college with another one starting in 2013) Our Literacy program has 30 adults from Parramos and Paraxaj. 8 graduated from Gr. 6 the highest level of this program, and this year we will have 15 new students and 21 wanting to return. Latrines 6 – Chitaburuy, Parrojas and Corrales All of these programs are funded by donations. Loving Arms is rapidly growing but we can only continue if monies are donated. Please give!
