M Club is a volunteer Macalester alumni organization that provides support for the athletics at Macalester College.

Description

The M Club is a volunteer Macalester College alumni organization that exists to provide support for the intercollegiate athletic program at Macalester College. The M Club's membership includes all alumni who have earned a varsity letter in a sport, varsity coaches and those who were denied the opportunity to participate in a varsity sport due to the absence of Title IX. The M Club is designed to provide support for current student athletes and foster loyalty among its alumni. Its activities include:

The M Club: * Hosts receptions and social events to engage alumni with the athletic department * Conducts programs to award and recognize both current and alumni athletes * Teaching the athletic community about giving to the Annual Fund to further the goals of the athletic programs at Macalester Why give to Macalester’s Annual Fund? 1. Macalester’s Annual Fund now is supplementing the budget of the athletic department, replacing the M Club’s separate fundraising program. 2. Gifts to the Annual Fund support financial aid, faculty retention, campus upkeep, study abroad activities, grant opportunities, and now, athletics. 3. The Annual Fund specifically supports athletics with these priorities: · Travel by teams for special competition and training. Travel has become extremely expensive for large groups. Costs have increased by 32% since 1998. · Awards and team banquets that honor the accomplishments of current student athletes. · Initiation of special alumni events that foster connection and school spirit among our former student athletes. An example of this was the successful "Celebrating Macalester Women in Sports" event in May of 2003. Supporting the improvement of all teams also means supporting the College's long-held values of diversity and community. By providing financial assistance that will benefit all students, and athletic teams, alumni demonstrate their commitment to giving all students better opportunities and experiences. And the overall success of Macalester's athletic teams ultimately brings greater prominence and credibility to the entire Macalester athletic program.
