Since graduating from Queen Margaret University (QMU) in 2015 with a 1st class BSc (Hons) Degree in Podiatry, Maddie has commenced studying towards her MSc in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery. Maddie is an HCPC registered Podiatrist and a member of the Royal Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. Maddie’s knowledge and interest in biomechanics and sports injuries has evolved through her experience as a middle distance runner. Maddie holds Scottish National titles over both cross country and track and has represented Scotland and recently Great Britain in the European cross country championships in Hyeres, winning European team gold. Having suffered many injuries herself she has both an understanding and wealth of experience in the best road to recovery. Podiatry treatments offered include: Routine footcare: Nails are cut and filed with the identification and treatment of common nail disorders such as; discoloured, thickened, fungal or ingrown toe nails. In addition any hard skin or corns will be removed and advice will be given on how to prevent future problems from arising. Biomechanical assessments, sports injuries & orthotics: Biomechanics studies the mechanical movement of the human body, specifically the musculoskeletal system and how your joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments work together or in opposition to facilitate function and movement. A biomechanical assessment will depend on your presenting concerns and involve both a vertical and horizontal examination including a number of joint and muscle testing to find the best treatment plan for you. A number of treatment modalities exist such as; stretching and home exercise programmes, footwear advice, taping and custom made orthotics. Verruca treatment: Verrucae are a common foot problem. Podiatrists can offer a wide range of treatments starting with a diagnosis. A course of treatment using salicylic or liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) is often advised to assist in reducing the Verruca. Nail surgery: Ingrown toe nails that cannot be resolved through routine nail care are recommended for nail surgery. This is a minor procedure involving either a partial or full nail removal under local anaesthetic. Following nail surgery a number of dressing changes need to be undertaken to monitor the healing process.
