Wichita's MakerSpace. Like this page to stay tuned in for classes, workshops, and other events!
A MakerSpace is a location where people with common interests can meet, socialise and/or collaborate. MakerSpaces can be viewed as open community labs incorporating elements of machine shops, workshops and/or studios where makers can come together to share resources and knowledge to build and make things. Our long term goal includes a location close to downtown Wichita that would include elements of a wood shop, machine shop, electronics lab, science lab, and art studio. The purpose of this page is to find individuals interested in a MakerSpace in Wichita, Kansas. Please share this page with individuals who would like a place to think, create, and socialize in a unique community shop environment. If you would like to be involved in the startup of this organization by donating time, money, or equipment, please send us a message.

From Seth Etter: On June 4-5 Open Wichita will be holding an event called Open Wichita Hackathon at Riverfest! This is a "civic hackathon". The idea is that you can work on any kind of project, as long as it is focused on improving the community in one form or another. I want to invite everyone to come out and participate! At the very least, come check it out and see what kind of things are being worked on. Opening remarks will start at 10:30 am on Saturday June 4, teams will be formed and begin working by Noon and will stop at Noon on Sunday. Following will be presentations and judging. http://hackathonict.com/
Our BD of kids activities has them all lined up for the Kids' Corner and STEM City during Riverfest. Volunteers are needed to help. Check out the list and sign up! While we'll have less electronic activities at Riverfest, the concentration on this one's face at one of the engineering expos pretty much lets you know how much fun you'll have helping the kids with the activities.

You'll often find someone learning something new, whether in a class or from another member. We have safety classes for using the tools and great members who are willing to share their knowledge on a specific project. Like using the lathe. Check us out online. http://makeict.org/
"Making" includes creating a new program to complete a task, setting up a project for the Laser Cutter or 3D printers, or figuring out "hacks" so software executes more efficiently.
