Maniktala is a residential area of northern Kolkata.LocationOriginally Manik Talao or today's Maniktala crossing is the intersection of Vivekananda Road and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road — two main thoroughfares in north Kolkata.One of Kolkata's largest Durga Puja celebration, the Manicktalla Chaltabagan Lohapatty Durga Puja is celebrated in its vicinity. Also, Beadon Street, one of the important streets of north Calcutta originates from Maniktala, ending in Nimtala Ghat. The adjacent area is known as Maniktala. This crossing connects Shyambazaar, Kankurgachi, Rajabazaar and Girish Park to Maniktala.EtymologyManiktala gets its name from "manik pir" a mosque located in the vicinity.LandmarksThe Central Blood Bank of West Bengal Government is located at the Maniktala crossing.
