Manoa Valley Church is a congregational church located in the center of Manoa Valley next to the Manoa Valley Marketplace. In addition to providing Sunday worship, we sponsor many ministries and services to the community.
Manoa Mission began in 1922 in upper Manoa Valley. There was only one building where a kindergarten, Sunday School, baby clinic and the church were centered. By the time of World War II, the mission had moved to lower Manoa (near present day Safeway). During the war, the people of the mission served as a link between the Japanese community and the military government. In appreciation for those efforts, when Manoa Heiwa Gakuen (Japanese School) was faced with confiscation of its property by the government, it gave the property to Manoa Mission in 1942. In 1946, Manoa Valley Church was organized with 17 charter members. Ten years later, Manoa Valley Church became legally incorporated. In 1959, more land was purchased and work began on our present day church buildings. The church members labored for two years and the sanctuary was dedicated in 1967. The gym with classrooms for Sunday School was completed at about the same time. Throughout the history of Manoa Valley Church, we as God's people strive to serve God, each other, and the community. Manoa Valley Church is a congregational church of the United Church of Christ and is a member of the United Church of Christ, Hawaii Conference.
