Description

The MHA's 25,000 linear feet of documents are distributed among many maritime-related collections: - Crew Agreements of British Empire Vessels, 1863-1976 - Registers of Colonial Shipping - Newfoundland business records - 200 newspapers and periodicals - 22,000 photographs The MHA also maintains several collections that are invaluable to family historians: - Keith Matthews Name Files, containing information on 7,300 surnames of families involved in NL's early settlement and trade, 1500-1850 - 7,000 student research papers offering insight into the history of NL's society, economy, fishery, commerce, communities and families - Irish Parish Registers, 1671-1900 (the only copies in North America) - West of England Parish Registers, 1296-1930
