Well, our teams have hit the ground running! St. Augustine said "The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." Pray for our TREKers as they experience different pages of this world.

One of our Jornada participants reflected on this question which he felt God had asked him, after a quiet time during a training session: "Why do you want me to tell you about that when I want to tell you about this?" What does God want to talk about with you today?

"If you ever find yourself reading your Bible and not changing, then you can be sure that you're approaching the Bible the wrong way. It's not about finding support for our lifestyle or way of thinking; it's about approaching the mind of God and letting Him change and redefine who we are." --- Francis Chan, in "Multiply"

Paul Kroeker from Global Disciples is talking to us about discipleship today. Here are a couple quotes: "Unmasking is essential for love." "Our spiritual growth is tied to community." Here's a paraphrase: Authentic spiritual community is the only thing that will take us through the glass ceiling in our spiritual growth as members of the North American Church.

Pastor Tim Klassen taught us today on the subject of "The Church that Christ died for". He reminded us, whenever we are in any kind of conflict with a Christian brother or sister, to remind ourselves that this is a person for whom Christ died. This is the perspective from which we should relate to each other. This perspective inspires humility and grace in us. Lord help us to be one, as you are one.

"Jesus said to me 'I'm going to use you as a cup. Don't think that you have something to offer. I will fill you, and that's what you have to give people.'" David Manuel was teaching us this morning, and said this. then he said (paraphrase): A cup doesn't ask people if they are Christians, if they've been baptized, and by whom, if they speak in tongues, if they've committed some sins. The cup will serve anybody without asking questions. We need to learn to serve all of God's people.

"True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment." --- William Penn Our TREKers are halfway through a 48 hour silent retreat. Pray with us that they will be nourished and refreshed.

"Becoming a disciple of Jesus is as simple as obeying His call to follow." ---- Francis Chan This quote comes from "Multiply," which we are reading together during TREK training.

Some quotes from our TREKers so far: "Trek has opened my eyes to new perspectives. I have been learning a lot about hearing and recognizing God's voice." --- Chayne "I've got new brothers and sisters through trek" --- Jeff "Even though I knew in my head that all principles for life are found in the scriptures, the speakers made it evident that Gods word is very real and applicable for right now." --- Tobias We'd love your prayers as we press in to transforming relationship with Jesus.

After a week of getting to know each other, and doing some orientation around MB Mission core values, we went on a hike yesterday up Elk Mountain. It was challenging, and the challenge brought the team together. Three people carried backpacks for others who needed a hand, groups set their pace appropriately for even their slowest member, and all the way up and back down, people dug into relationship with each other. One of my absolute favourite proverbs (although this one is not from the Biblical book "Proverbs") is: If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together. As we learned to bear one another's burdens, and remain with each other instead of focusing on efficiency, we learned some of the lessons we will need to employ as we go overseas on teams. We all have far to go; lets go together.

BITTERNESS: I was just reflecting on something a friend said recently. She said that since taking on her current role, in which she is involved in caring for the health (spiritual, emotional etc) of missionaries, she has realized the huge effects of bitterness. You may have heard that what brings sent ones home off the field the most is team conflict. Do you know how conflict starts? It doesn’t start with a raging fight. It starts with the tiny seed of bitterness. People do things all the time that plant little potential seeds of bitterness in our hearts. It’s part of living in community with imperfect people. But what are we doing with those seeds? Are we watering them with our thoughts? Are we cultivating them with excuses for their existence? Today I want to encourage you to ask the Spirit to reveal any seeds of bitterness you’ve allowed room in your heart. Don’t be condemned by this, be encouraged by His invitation to health. Take authority over bitterness in your life – cast it out in the name of Jesus. And when temptation to think bitter thoughts comes, practice Randy’s 4 Rs: Recognize, Repent, Resist, Renew. Nip it in the bud. Don’t let it grow into an offence that will lead to a conflict that will jeopardize what He wants to do through you.
