Description

Churches, Businesses and Individuals demonstrating Gods love by 'partnering together to provide hope, love and material resources for Meridian Raymond Neighbors "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." - Prov. 3:27 “We don’t go to church, we take the Church to our neighborhoods.” Biblically, the church, the body of Christ, is composed of the saved people of God who gather in His name and consists of the people and not a building, or an organization. I Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? Thus the “church” is individual believers and families living out their lives where ever the daily course of life takes them. Matthew 18:20 (NKJV) 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Hebrews 10:23-25 (NKJV) 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the approaching. Since the beginning of the church in the book of Acts, believers choose to gather together in His name on a regular basis to exhort one another and stir up one another to love and good works. This is the gathered or corporate church, the body of Christ assembled. We encourage our members living in the same neighborhood to gather in His name in these informal ministry cells in their homes sometimes called small groups, life groups, house cells or neighborhood Bible studies or house churches in some regions and nations. As an organized formal, incorporated church, we hold our services in a building that is zoned for religious use. Grace Baptist Church of Indy encourages our members to practice incarnational relational urban ministry. John 1:14 (NKJV) states: “ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” As Jesus left Heaven to live among us, minister to us and save us, we encourage members to live in urban neighborhoods to minister to their neighbors and help connect them with God and His love as expressed in Jesus Christ. We pray for others to come live in our neighborhood and help us or cluster together in other neighborhood ministry cells. We can link them to affordable houses, they can rent or buy. We visit our neighbors and gradually cultivate relationships as God opens doors for us. We visit in their homes and distribute Our Daily Bread and other literature, or study the Bible with them. We invite them into our homes to share a meal or visit or pray or study God’s Word with us. We teach our members they were saved by God ‘s grace for good works (See Eph. 2:8-10). Titus 3:14 (NKJV) 14 And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. We encourage our members living in these neighborhood ministry groups to meet urgent needs and do good works. For examples, my family shares food with our neighbors. In our ministry cell, we provide rides or bus tickets or share used clothing, toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap. We encourage our members to be good citizens and obey the laws of the land when they do not conflict with allegiance to Christ (See Rom. 13:1-8 and Acts 4:19-20, Acts 5:29). We encourage those we minister to in our neighborhoods to get legal driver’s licenses, not use illegal drugs, and follow building codes, etc. We encourage our members to show love of God by being good neighbors and involved in their neighborhoods. Matt. 22:37-39 states: Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. We as individuals helped form the Meridian Raymond Neighborhood Association. We work closely with our elected officials, police and other neighborhood groups to help improve our neighborhood. We encourage our members to only ask God for their needs and chronicle His answers. James 4:2 (NKJV) 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. The poor have been taught the church is a place you go to for help. We are trying to teach them through our example and words that you ask God for your needs not others. When believers ask me for help, I often tell them you are asking the wrong person. Let us pray and ask God, He has promised to meet your needs. Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. We pass out little prayer books for people to note their requests and the date and way God answers. We also ask them to join us for our daily prayer times where we pray for their needs. Like Paul, we lift up the needs of others. We encourage our members to remember it is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 (NKJV) I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “ Many people believe it is more blessed to receive than to give. The following have helped our neighborhood ministry cell in some way. Antioch Congregational Christian Church who have brought down work crews. Child Evangelism Fellowship who hold Five Day Clubs in the summer. Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church who help us in many ways. Grace Point Church, Whiteland, Indiana who provide us food each week for the neighborhood. Mission Indy who have helped us with various volunteer projects. Olive Branch Christian Church graciously provides a chapel for us to use on Sunday. The following secular groups or public officials have helped us, Ann Westrop IMPD Gretchen Smith IMP Lisa Laflin South Side Mayor’s Liaison Jeff Miller City Councilman For Our Area District 19 Justin Moed State Representative District 97 Modern Woodmen of America Financial who fund our Youth Service Club. As Jesus left Heaven to live among us, we have left other areas to reach our neighbors. John 1:14 (NKJV) 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. We are praying for more people to come live in our neighborhood and help us. Fine Christians use different approaches for funding their ministries. Because of the people, we are trying to reach, God has laid on our heart to only ask God for our needs. We also ask them to join us for our prayer times daily where we pray for their needs. 3. We believe that the more you give, the more God will give to you. 2 Corinthians 9:6, 8 (NKJV) 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. We encourage our people to give of their treasure, use some of their food stamps to help the Lord’s work and to give of their time. As they are faithful, God will give more to give resources to give. 4. We use houses for our ministry because the tenants pay the overhead, while loaning us space for the ministry. We knew when we started we would have a limited budget. We practice relational urban ministry. We gradually build relationships as God gives us opportunity. One of the ways, we build relationship is through distributing food graciously provided for us through the Grace Point Church in Whiteland Indiana.
