Science Barge is a net zero, closed-loop, floating marine laboratory & environmental education center, 100% powered by renewable energy.
The Miami Science Barge is a floating marine laboratory and environmental education center serving Miami's K-12 students and will be located on Biscayne Bay in Museum Park in downtown Miami. The program will have a variety of interactive activities (such as water quality testing and live video stream of the Bay via an underwater roving camera) to teach children about the Biscayne Bay ecosystem and spur local stewardship. The Barge will be completely powered by renewable energy, host native sea life, and display innovative marine technologies such as aquaponics and an aquaculture hatchery. The Miami Science Barge has recently received press attention for being one of 126 finalists (and one of ten in Miami) for the Knight Cities Challenge.
