Attention Property Owners and Estate Executors - if you have a property that is vacant - - - -take precautions and communicate with your insurance agent! Last year one of our vacant properties was vandalized for $20 worth of copper, ALAS - the water was on and caused almost $30,000 in property damage! Fortunately, it happened shortly after being vacated, but if it was vacant over 30 days insurance would NOT have covered it!!
Home Helper: Have bad odors from the garbage disposal? 1. Make sure you run it after the food sounds cleared. 2. Ice cubes and kosher salt will help clean the blades. 3. Pour in 1/2 c baking soda, then add 1 c vinegar. Let it foam up, then flush with boiling water. 4. Occasionally, fill the sink with soapy water and let it drain. 5. Lemon peels are always good for a fresh scent! Any other tips for a better-smelling sink?
Home Helper: At least twice a year, clean the compressor to your refrigerator. It is either in the back or pop the grill off of the front and vacuum it out. Even more important to do if you have pets and they are shedding their winter coats now!

From God's Word Into Action! Verse: "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Get for yourselves purses that will not wear out, the treasure in heaven that never runs out, where thieves can't steal and moths can't destroy." Luke 12:33 (NCV) Challenge: Time for some spring cleaning! Go through your house and find things that you can sell (a TV you don't need, dishes you don't use, etc). This will help you live more simply and you can donate the money raised to a favorite local charity.
Busy, busy, busy!!! Is anyone NOT busy??? Christmas is coming quick, and gifting is upon us! Does anyone really need any more 'stuff'? Reflecting on the homes we have cleaned out and sold this year, I have some thoughts to share regarding 'stuff': 1. Hey Guys! - diamonds really are a girls best friend! Along with any quality jewelry, it tends to stay in the family or is sold at a pretty good price. 2. Collectibles - they are the most valuable to the collector. Be careful about going overboard, unless it proves to hold value. 3. Glassware - it is so beautiful, but does not hold its value. Consider painting the bottom of a glass plate and making it a gift, or use them to plate Christmas cookies. Dry erase markers work well if you turn a piece into a message board. 4. Tools - everybody loves tools, who couldn't use more tools to decorate the garage? 5. Memories - I have yet to see 1 single picture get thrown away. In this digital age, where are your loved ones storing their memories? I can't imaging saving a memory card will have the same impact as saving a photo of grandma. Get those pics out of cyberspace! Share your thoughts and ask questions!!! Merry Christmas, Julie

It seems like the monsoon season in Omaha lately! Check your house for water damage, then determine the true cause before you fix it. Water damage can be a result of a poor vapor barrier, drainage, ventilation, faults in brickwork, bad sills, gaps around windows and doors, damaged shingles, poor flashing, gutters in disrepair, leaky pipes and/or poorly sealed bathrooms. 1. First, find the true source of the problem 2. Improve drainage and ventilation 3. Always keep exterior walls in good condition 4. Seal gaps around window/door frames. 5. Repair a faulty roof 6. Deal with leaky pipes sooner than later! Spend a little now, before water causes a MUCH more expensive repair!
