The Venue: Mint is located on the main High Road just diagonally opposite Streatham Hill station or a short bus ride from Brixton underground. It’s hard to miss as it has a rather tacky two tone sign over the door but don’t be put off as that’s where the tackiness ends. There are large windows that open right out, turning the front of the bar into an outdoor area, but sitting on one of the few tables outside isn’t recommended as it is by a very busy bus stop so can be noisy and polluted! Once inside the light, spacious interior you will be impressed with the comfortable surroundings to both drink and dine in. The Atmosphere: The relaxed atmosphere really comes to life on Friday and Saturday nights when they have a DJ playing the latest in soulful and funky house music until late. It has a really cosy feel to it, kind of like being in your own living room when you’ve a few friends round. The polite, welcoming staff are also definitely worth a mention as receiving their warm, efficient service ensures return visits. The Drink: The cocktails must be mentioned first and foremost - they are all made with fresh ingredients and nothing is too much trouble. The martinis alone take up a whole page on the menu and include a delicious Lychee Love Machine – fresh lychees, vodka, ginger, lemongrass and elderflower – or the unusual Kiwi that comes complete with a blade of grass. They also have an excellent wine list starting from the reasonable £11 mark for the house up to still cheap £16 for an Australian chardonnay, and serve champagne by the glass or bottle. The Music: When the DJ isn’t pumping funky vocal house out at the weekends and the live Jazz isn’t on of a Sunday, the music policy at Mint is chilled and just in the background so as not to interfere with the lunch time diners chat and mixed crowd that this bar attracts. The Food: Every palate is catered for here, they do delightful small plates of dishes like spring rolls, sauted prawns, risotto balls and chicken satay to name a few, which are all reasonably priced. The well thought out mains vary from meals like bangers and mash to king prawns, chorizo and crayfish tagliatelle as well as burgers and roast dinners. Something that is wonderfully different is Sunday brunch at Mint. You can come and soak up the live jazz whilst enjoying a leisurely, unlimited buffet style breakfast with a chef cooking your eggs fresh at the table however you like, all for a staggeringly low price at around £6! Summary Mint is an impressive venue that that is open late 7 days a week. Mint is a distinctive Cocktail bar that also offers an excellent choice of good quality food at reasonable prices. Mint is arguably the best place that we have eaten out at in Streatham. Also of note is the stylish decor and comfortable seating, good natural light and lighting. All these factors combined with their philosophy of using fresh ingredients in both their food and drinks halps to ensure that eating out at Mint is a great experience every-time.
