Misabel's Canvas (NonProfit) is a health and wellness organization that adopts holistic approaches to raise mental health awareness.
Misabel's Canvas is an organization with a mandate to promote mental health by providing a holistic approach in engaging communities through various art-based mediums. The name 'Misabel' was derived from the combination of the founder's grandmother's name. Her grandmother, was a woman who devoted her time and resources to support her community through generosity, love, compassion and discipline. Thus, Misabel is a reminder that wellness and well-being are fundamental parts in building resilient communities. The framework of Misabel's Canvas was brought to life through facilitating art-based health workshops with at-risk teens and youth and observing the need of a dual learning approach to mental health. The core of the organization is to strengthen and raise mental health awareness in African and Black communities using a non-clinical route --Art and other creative expressions. We create a safe and open space to give, receive, release, learn, express and ultimately grow for a well-rounded healthy and informed individual. An integral aspect of art is the blank slate (canvas) it presents which, gives the freedom and flexibility to create, shape and bring to life a masterpiece. Some art mediums we use are painting (abstract or otherwise), poetry/spoken word, short stories, beading, calligraphy --just to name a few. We encourage the strength/beauty in uniqueness and creativity at any level that aids a dual fun-learning approach. Welcome to Misabel's Canvas, World of Healthy Arts.
