Description

Dr. Andrew DeMeyer is a native of San Diego, having grown up in Point Loma and Ocean Beach. He attended Point Loma High School and later matriculated at the University of California, San Diego. He then went on to the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where he graduated with High Honors and was selected for membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon (the National Dental Honor Society, dentistry’s version of Phi Beta Kappa). Dr. DeMeyer then served 4 years as a dentist in the United States Navy. His initial tour was at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, where he completed a General Practice Residency with a surgery emphasis. He then joined the USS OGDEN (LPD-5) as the Dental Department Head while she was deployed to Prince William Sound, Alaska in support of the Exxon-Valdez oil spill. While aboard he also traveled to the Far East, and eventually to the Persian Gulf for the first Gulf War. He was conferred the Combat Action Ribbon, the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service. Upon completion of his military service in 1992, Dr. DeMeyer bought partnership in the Mission Boulevard Dental Group with Dr. Daniel Henderson and then went on to become the group’s principle owner in 2002. He has served with distinction on the County Dental Society’s Peer Review Committee as well as Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry. Dr. Gernhofer is originally from Traverse City, MI. He received his Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biomedical Science. After receiving his dental degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Gernhofer served 4 years as a dentist in the US Navy. Prior to joining Mission Boulevard Dental Group, Dr. Gernhofer completed a General Practice Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then became the Dental Department Head onboard the USS TORTUGA (LSD-46), a Naval warship stationed in Sasebo, Japan. After serving 2 years at sea, Dr. Gernhofer was assigned to the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego as a staff dentist. During his time in the Navy, Dr. Gernhofer received numerous accolades including the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Dr. Gernhofer is very passionate about public service and helping those in need. He has volunteered and performed hundreds of dental procedures in rural areas throughout the world including Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Cambodia. He is currently a volunteer dentist with the UCSD Student-Run Free Dental Clinic Project in San Diego.
