A professional, multi-racial theatre promoting cultural pluralism and individual equality through artistic excellence. Since its founding in 1976, Mixed Blood Theatre has remained dedicated to the spirit of Dr. King’s dream. With plays ranging from intimate chamber theater to irreverent political satires to technical extravaganzas, Mixed Blood convenes disparate peoples under its roof for common purpose. The theatre presents over 500 performances annually in the Alan Page Auditorium of its historic firehouse theatre and in schools, churches, community centers, juvenile detention centers, and workplaces.

Some national theatre news: On January 15, the National New Play Network—of which we are very proud members—will be launching the New Play Exchange, a revolutionary platform designed for the common good of the entire new play sector. Its goal is both simple and profound: to replace submissions as the primary way in which playwrights and producers connect with one another. We are very excited about the development of the platform, and we hope that once the doors open, you’ll join us at newplayexchange.org!

We are doing an annual clean-out of our basement prop and scenery storage! If you want scrap lumber or to add to your prop storage or maybe even to find a hidden treasure for your house feel free to stop by the theater between 9 am and 2 pm on Friday or between 9 and 12 on Saturday. Whatever isn't claimed will be going in a dumpster. Also, please note there is heavy construction in the area, so you will need to be prepared to carry whatever you claim to your vehicle which may be parked far away!
Mixed Blood is excited to be working with the City of Minneapolis to 'Adopt-a-Precinct.' This wonderful opportunity allows us to connect with, and support our community in new and deeper ways by serving on Election Day. Our commitment to the city is to provide at least 10 Election Judges to work polling stations in and surrounding Mixed Blood's precinct on Election Day: November 4, 2014. Judges will be compensated for their time, and can choose to keep their earnings, or donate all or part of them back to Mixed Blood. If you are interested in representing Mixed Blood as an election judge, please email Brie(at)mixedblood.com for more details.
