Welcome to the Department of Marketing ~ IMAGINE a world without your favorite car, your favorite ice cream, personal computer, smartphone or any other essential or desired product or service! That would be a world without MARKETING! It is often said that the purpose of any organization is to create customers and to create for customers. Marketers do this every day! Creating customers means identifying needs in the marketplace, deciding on which needs the organization can profitability serve, and developing a product or service offering to turn potential buyers into satisfied customers. Marketers facilitate the exchange between buyers and sellers through strategic planning that is essential to a company's success. Marketing is a vital part of every organization whether a for-profit or not-for-profit, large or small, private or public. Marketing professionals are essential to identifying customers' wants and needs and then planning and developing, promoting, pricing, selling, and distributing products and services in the most effective way. The mission of the Marketing Department at CSUSB is to provide quality marketing programs and distinctive experiences that empower the learners to become valued contributors and leaders in business and society. Hiring and retaining quality faculty who not only master their discipline, but also manifest a strong interest in students and a commitment to scholarship. Seeking input periodically from the Department's major publics (students, employers, alumni, business community, etc.). Providing an assertive academic and career advising program to assist students in planning their academic programs and preparing for the world of work. Developing a "student oriented" schedule that provides students with the necessary flexibility of morning, afternoon or evening class schedules. Providing students an opportunity for developing leadership skills and real world experience through participation in the American Marketing Association activities and/or enrolling in a meaningful internship experience.
