THANK YOU to CAKEHOUNDS BLOG. It's great to get such a nice review from real Foodies who run a great restaurant review website. Check them out...... Here's their review: Cakehounds Cake, cocktails, chatter and tight buns. Dinner at Monterey Jack’s, Stirling Friday, November 21, 2014 0 Cocktails, Food, Reviews, Stirling bacon, banana, beef, burgers, cocktails, gin, jam, lamb, milkshakes, Monterey Jack's, Old Arcade, pulled pork, rum, stirling, strawberry vodka Permalink 0 It was ladies night last Friday, and since Friday usually means cocktails we decided to scout out the new Stirling hotspot and indulge in some of their happy hour deals, and have a wee bite to eat at the same time. Thus, a catch up and dinner at Monterey Jack’s. Monterey Jack’s recently opened in the Stirling Old Arcade approximately four months ago. Hailed as Stirling’s new burger joint, it promises ‘the perfect burger everytime’ from their range of gourmet food; which also includes a selection of pizzas, soups, salads and sandwiches. Plus a varied cocktail and milkshake menu! Yum! For only being open a short time the place seems to be doing well, which is nice to see in its current location. Previous food and drink tenants of the old arcade have come and gone, never sticking around for long or ever making a lasting impression. We arrived around 7.30pm and it was fairly busy. Although we had reserved a table via DM on Facebook, (with a response back), we were a bit surprised when the waitress informed us they didn’t take bookings for anything less than a table of six. Perhaps a miscommunication but it was quickly resolved and we didn’t have to wait long while a table was put together. We opted to sit inside rather than out in the centre, thinking it may be a bit chilly. Mum & Nicola - cocktails at montery jacks We got cracked into the cocktails straight away ordering a Strawberry Vodka (vodka, vanilla syrup, cranberry and lime), Jam & Gin (gin, raspberry puree, homemade fruit compote and tonic) and a Orange Cream Soda (morgans, cointreau, orange juice and soda). They all came served in super cute jars and not laden full of ice to bulk up the drink. monterey jacks Burgers were obviously definitely a must… when in Rome after all… and the menu had a good range from beef, lamb, vegetarian and chicken options. An added bonus on surfing the menu was that there was plenty of deals, even on at weekends, rather than confined to weekdays which most establishments tend to do. Burgers – 2 for £10 (approx £7), pizzas 2 for £15 (around £9) and cocktails 2 for £8 (£5 each). Montery jacks burger We all opted for three different burgers; ◾Larry the Greek – (lamb burger with feta cheese, roasted tomatoes & peppers & balsamic reduction). Very meaty and well seasoned. A definite recommendation if you love this combo of flavours ◾Notorious P.I.G – (BBQ pulled pork & crispy bacon) – and the best name ever! Only complaint was that mum felt the pulled pork was a bit salty. ◾The Mounty – (Smoked bacon, onion rings, Monterey Jacks cheese drizzled with maple syrup). No complaints from Nicola – very yum! Montery Jacks - Notorious P.I.G Sides are extra if you want them but they do a deal for three for £7. We opted for chunky fries (piping hot and crispy), atomic fries (skinny chips with chilli flakes and jalapenos – tasty enough but the heat factor could have been more) and a portion of crispy onion rings. Although there was a bit of complaining on mum’s front that she never got her fair share… hey you need to be fast when you eat with the Cakehounds! Montery Jacks yummy sides We were a bit full after stuffing our faces so decided to skip the dessert menu and treat ourselves to a milkshake. They have a variety of different flavours at £2.50 and you can ‘spike’ them for an extra £1.50 to add a 25ml of any spirit. Ours had to be banana and rum of course. A good ole’ favourite! 10 out of 10 for presentation but both us of agreed they could have probably been a bit stronger, the rum flavour seemed a bit lost and you would be doing well if you could manager another one! rum & banana milkshakes As the night got later the staff (who were really pleasant and friendly) set up a table for us outside in the centre, under a patio heater to watch the live singer. Unfortunately we didn’t get the singer’s name but he was good and it’s a nice change to have a bit of live entertainment that doesn’t necessarily mean a gig or a crowded dingy pub. On reflection of our night, our only two points to Monterey Jack’s would be; 1. The music inside can get a bit loud and it does make it really hard to chat to your dining companion… or are we getting old? 2. There’s no need to put paper on the plates under the burgers. It probably looks nice but just gets a bit soggy. Other than that a good Friday had by all, and now knowing they do takeaways could prove lethal on a Sunday chill out session! Cakehounds x NOTE FROM MJ: Thanks Cakehounds! regards your two minor points above. We can't possibly comment on point 1 (we have adjusted a wee bit since your visit). 2. We have upgraded the greaseproof paper to ensure it doesn't get soggy. Kind regards, MJ.
