John Peel Riding Club
The Croft, Heads Nook Brampton CA8 9AF United Kingdom

The John Peel Riding Club is based in Cumbria and we welcome adult riders of all abilities to enjoy our programme of events. The John Peel Riding Club was founded by Mrs Peggy Mounsey-Heysham over 50 years ago. Once riders finished in the Pony Club there was nothing for them to do, so Peggy founded the John Peel to provide tuition and competition for those outgrowing the PC. Many of the events were held at Castletown, just outside Rockcliffe, north of Carlisle' and were open to other riding clubs - most of which were north of the border. John Peel was the only English riding club in Area 1 and remained in that Area until 3 years ago, when it joined Area 2 (the north-east ). Peggy remained involved with the riding club until shortly before her death. Her daughter Ann Lawson has been Chairperson for many years now and the ethos of the club remains the same. The competitions raise money to help subsidise the training, as well as to have fun. There is a wide variety of events to suit all riders including instruction in showjumping, dressage and cross-country, fun rides, competitions and social get togethers. All levels of ability are catered for and welcomed, as are any suggestions for activities. Many of our events take place at Blackdyke and at members' home venues.
