As taxis average more than 55,000 miles a year, reducing one taxi's gasoline consumption can make a big difference. Fortunately, there are a number of ways fleets can improve their sustainability, including adopting hybrid, natural gas, or propane vehicles. We have joined forces with “Clean Cities US Dept of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program” (Middle Tennessee Clean Fuels) to help Nashville to become the Cleanest City in the entire Southeast, which I might also mention that Mayor Karl Dean is also a part of the Green Initiative. US Dept of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program, Clean Cities is a government- industry partnership designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector. Clean Cities contributes to the energy, environmental, and economic security of the United States by supporting local decisions to reduce our dependence on imported petroleum. Clean Cities deploys technologies including idle-reduction equipment, electric-drive vehicles, fuel economy measures, and renewable and alternative fuels, such as natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (propane), electricity, hydrogen, biofuels, and biogas. Since 1993, Clean Cities and its stakeholders have reduced petroleum consumption by nearly 3 billion gallons. Green Cab Inc. is a stakeholder along with 8400 other stakeholders with Clean Cities. We are working side by side to help our environment to become more “green” and bring alternative fuel vehicles into the city of Nashville and Davidson County. Green Cab Inc will also bring in electric cars to add our fleet to the Nashville area. The US Dept of Energy hopes to have at least 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. And Green Cab, Inc wants to participate and be a part of Nashville’s Green History. We will first begin to use CNG vehicles in our fleet, and gradually add vehicles that have been converted into different fuel alternatives. Our Flexible Fuel Vehicles will provide a renewable fuel choice. Today almost 8 million vehicles on the US highways are flexible fuel vehicles (FFV’s). These vehicles can operate on gasoline or blends of gasoline and ethanol up to E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline).
