Mary Catherine King is widely acclaimed for both her performing and teaching abilities. With a masters degree in violin performance and literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Mary possesses the experience and knowledge to excite, engage, and accelerate her students to accomplish their musical goals. Whether a student wishes to attain a position in an accredited university and a career in music, or is a beginner interested in exploring his or her musical potential, Mary Catherine is equally accepting of all students, and willing to meet them at their level and take them to the next.
During her undergraduate degree, Mary Catherine also completed her Suzuki-instructor certification for all ten volumes under the tutelage of Mrs. Joanne Bath. She served as concertmaster for both the East Carolina University Symphony and the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and has soloed with numerous symphonies including the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, the Fayetteville Symphony, and the Durham Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Mary Catherine has received top honors in both national and international music competitions. Most recently, she was a founding faculty member of the Illinois String Academy, where she taught private violin lessons, led group classes, and accompanied numerous classes and recitals.
