The National Christmas Tree Railroad is a volunteer group that sets up a model train display around the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse south of the White House. Trains run daily 10AM-10PM from the President's lighting of the tree to New Year's Day

The 2014 display is winding down. New Year's is the last day of operation though dismantling will be underway; trains must be cleared to allow decoration removal from the National Christmas Tree. The volunteers would like to say "thank you" to all that have visited. We look forward to being a part of your holidays again in 2015.
The National Christmas Tree Railroad volunteers spent Friday and Saturday getting the 2014 display ready for Thursday’s lighting ceremony. The display opens to the public Friday. We hope you will come by to visit.
Received a nice surprise before the lighting ceremony. The recognition is appreciated but best reward is seeing folks enjoying our display.
The display will be static tomorrow. By White House direction, trains won’t be running during lighting ceremony. But, they are ready to roll starting Friday.

The National Tree Lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5PM EDT December 3rd. Details will be posted as they become available.
The 2015 display was largely completed Friday and Saturday with support from some very helpful Boy Scouts. The volunteers will continue to make final adjustments prior to the tree lighting.
The volunteers are resting and enjoying Thanksgiving today but will be up early tomorrow as work on the 2015 train display begins.

Just a reminder that the train display runs daily 10AM-10PM through January 1st (operations are suspended for certain conditions like this morning's ice). Hope you have a chance to visit.

The 2016 National Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Thursday, December 1. Hello everybody. With the start of fall, the National Christmas Tree Railroad volunteers are gearing up for the 2016 display. Be sure to check back for updates about the display and events at the tree. Looking forward to seeing everyone in December.
Trains are packed away. After some rest, the volunteers will meet and compare notes and lessons learned for improving future displays. Thank you to all that visited. We look forward to seeing you again in December.
