The National Spill Control School offers specialized hands-on training for those interested in the Oil Spill, HAZMAT, and Emergency Management industries.

Description

The National Spill Control School began teaching oil spill classes in 1977. The NSCS added hazmat/waste classes in 1980, OSHA HAZWOPER in 1989, and ICS with Spill Management Team training in 1995. Over the years, the NSCS earned an excellent reputation for its training programs and was written into the OIL POLLUTION ACT OF 1990 (OPA90) as a training and research resource for the NATIONAL RESPONSE TEAM. The NSCS was recognized in 1998 by the TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE. In 2007, the NSCS was awarded by the Texas General Land Office with the OSPRA Award (Oil Spill Prevention & Response Act) for 30 years of service. The NSCS makes every effort to maintain the quality of instruction in training spill responders. The NSCS conducts courses in oil spill management, response, and safety, as well as courses in hazardous material/waste management. The NSCS also offers courses in spill response and safety as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120. The National Spill Control School offers OSHA mandated training course for industry and military personnel, as well as university students. Known for our mild-Texas weather, the NSCS offers year-round training at various land and water sites. Oil Spill Courses: - 40-Hr. HAZWOPER for Oil Spill Response. - Oil Spill Response Strategies & Tactics (On Water Course). - OHMSETT Oil Spill Training in Leonardo, NJ. - Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team (SCAT) Member. HAZMAT Courses: - 40-Hr. OSHA/RCRA HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response) -24-Hr. OSHA/RCRA HAZWOPER -8HR. OSHA/RCRA HAZWOPER Refresher Specialized Courses: -Hazardous Material Transportation I & II. -GIS & GPS for Oil Spill Management. -8 Hr HAZWOPER (Supervisor Safety). -Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team (SCAT) Leader. -Oil Spill Response for Rivers & Tidal Inlets -National Incident Management System (NIMS) -Incident Command System (ICS) -Chemistry of Hazardous Materials -Advanced Oil Spill Training and more. Upon request, the NSCS will schedule a customized training session at our campus or your facility. We provide specialized HAZMAT or Spill Response courses, research, or training exercises and support, upon request.
