Naturopathic doctors may look at the standard medical results with a more discerning eye and may reject standard evaluations.

Description

Testing may include: Comprehensive blood tests – these may be similar to the ones you’ve had ordered for you in the past, but naturopathic doctors tend to search for patterns and relationships and have stricter interpretations on what is “normal” versus what is “optimal”. Comprehensive Hormone Testing – Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S, FSH, etc. via serum. Occasionally urine levels of hormones. The reference ranges on these tests are pretty non-helpful, but Dr. Hiell uses her 14 plus years of looking at literally thousands of blood tests to look for what is or is not out of balance for each individual. Again, looking for “optimal”, not “normal”. Thorough Thyroid testing - free T3, free T4, TSH, thyroid antibodies (when indicated) because simply a TSH is not enough! Adrenal testing- timed salivary cortisol testing , DHEA and am cortisol via blood – this can help uncover an important hidden source of fatigue. Glucose and Insulin testing - early warning for diabetes and insulin resistance, before it becomes a bigger problem! Stool testing- special, highly sensitive testing for parasites, bacterial imbalances, yeast and other fungal cultures, food allergies, antibodies to parasites, etc. – when you need answers on “why am I having such horrible bowel problems?” Food Allergy testing- we look for immediate (IgE antibody) reactions and delayed (Igg4 antibody) reactions and sometimes even stool testing for antibodies because detecting food allergens takes great medical detective work. Urine testing- for bone loss evaluations, neurotransmitter levels, heavy metals. More information means better understanding of the health problems we face and how they can be best addressed for optimal wellness. BIA (Bio-Impedence Analysis) to test for multiple bio-markers for health including lean muscle mass, body hydration, percent body fat, phase angle, tissue toxicity, etc. Great way to track progress for weight loss and before and after a detox.
