New Art Exchange is a Nottingham based contemporary arts space stimulating new perspectives on the value of diversity in art and society. In September 2003 the New Art Exchange was formed as a new organisation to steer and manage the development of Nottingham’s first dedicated cultural facility for Black and Asian contemporary arts. New Art Exchange was formed as a partnership between APNA Arts and EMACA Visual Arts. APNA Arts focused on South Asian arts and played a key role in the development of the Nottingham Mela. EMACA Visual Arts supported the development of artists of African/Caribbean origin. From April 2006, Arts Council England revenue funding for these two organisations ceased and was replaced by a consolidated grant to the New Art Exchange. The board of the New Art Exchange were successfully awarded capital funding to create a new dedicated centre for contemporary arts on the site of the former Art Exchange, in the centre of Hyson Green in Nottingham. The award-winning London-based architects Hawkins Brown designed the New Art Exchange.
