About Our Organization New Jerusalem Citadel Church (NJCC) is an inter-racial, Christian church. Since our beginning in 2005, NJCC has been committed to a ministry of excellence commissioned by God to feed the homeless, reach out to the community and to touch and transform lives through Jesus Christ. As a church, we are sensitive to the spiritual and natural needs of people; therefore we make every effort to meet everyone on any level. To minister to the whole man/woman that they may be thoroughly furnished and complete to the image and likeness of Christ. Meet Our Pastor & Wife Elder B.R. Powell Elder B.R. Powell is the Pastor and Founder of New Jerusalem Citadel Church of Sacramento, California. Having a consuming passion for souls and a willingness to obey God, he established the ministry in February 2005 with a focus to build and strengthen the total man; mind, body and soul. Raised in the rough streets of Los Angeles, he acknowledged the plan of God for his life early. In attempt to avoid the entrapments of inner city street life, he relocated to Sacramento, California. There he accepted his calling as a preacher and was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ where he served diligently as an assistant pastor for a local church. First Lady Gloria J. Powell is a woman of pure elegance and humility. She is without a doubt full of life and a joy to all who have the privilege of knowing her. Although soft spoken, she has the ability to captivate an audience of various ages and nationalities. With a deep passion for women and children, she minister’s healing to the broken hearted. Her message of love and hope is relayed with precision, humor, truth, and an undeniable God given anointing. Born in Ashdown Arkansas, First Lady Gloria Powell is the youngest of eight children. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of sixteen and was ordained a licensed missionary on January 17, 1988 under the leadership of Bishop G.A Hopkins where she matured into the woman of excellence that she is today. First Lady Gloria Powell has been married to Pastor B.R. Powell for 23 wonderful years. Together they have raised seven beautiful children and have adopted five more. Feeding the Homeless Every forth Saturday of each month, NJCC goes to North B (across from Loaves & Fishes), to feed approximately 250-400 people. Meals are not prepared as junk food such as sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks. Pastor B.R. Powell personally goes out to buy meat such as ribs, turkey, chicken, ham, and brisket. He prepares bar-b-que ribs or brisket, deep fried turkeys, chicken with gravy, or baked ham. Along with these meals he prepares various types of vegetables (he believes in the nutritional pyramid), rice pilaf, spaghetti with meatballs, delicious honey-syrup baked dinner rolls, various types of fruit, and two kinds of drinks (water & juice). NJCC helps Pastor prepare these meals, set up on location, form a serving line, and begin to bless hundreds of people who need to be shown true Godly love. As we serve them, we watch their expressions, and when we see a smile on their face or even if they say “thank you”, “it was delicious”, or even a “God bless you people”, we are very please, but it’s not the NJCC homeless team that are pleased, its our GOD who is most pleased. Through us blessing His people, he will bless us. Pastor Powell’s vision has played a big part of this ministry, and he has showed his true love for God by “feeding God’s sheep” John 21:15-17.
