The Legal Referral Service is dedicated to helping you find an experienced lawyer. We vet our lawyers for integrity, client commitment & skill.
The NYC Bar Association was formed in 1870 to combat corruption in the courts. The Legal Referral Service is the first service in New York established to help the public understand what lawyers do and how to find legal help. How To Contact Us Call us at (212) 626-7373. We are also reachable online at www.nycbar.org or www.iLawyer.com. We accept requests for referrals by telephone, e-mail, fax, website (www.iLawyer.com), or by regular mail. Our Referral Counselors are lawyers or paralegals, trained to help you evaluate your options and recommend appropriate legal help for you. The LRS maintains an extensive database of legal and social service providers in the New York metropolitan area, including government agencies, private organizations, free legal services, and lawyers in private practice who can help you. How Do We Find the Right Lawyer? We evaluate all lawyers before making any referrals. In order to be part of the Legal Referral Service, lawyers must apply in writing to be placed on our recommended list. Applicants to the panel are thoroughly screened for knowledge, experience and ethics. Applicants are carefully interviewed by a review panel of lawyers with expertise in the relevant areas of law. Panel members must maintain professional liability insurance to receive referrals from us. They agree to submit to binding arbitration, at the client’s request, in the event of a fee dispute. We are committed to client satisfaction.
