You should look into the cost Kiwi's are being charged for a visa to the UK. The UK Visa office hasn't updated their exchange rates, and now a Kiwi will pay an extra 25% on the cost of a visa. A youth mobility visa that costs £535 should cost a kiwi $1,016 (rate of 1.9). We are however charged $1,190 (rate of 2.25), a whole $173 extra! For a ancestral visa, this cost difference becomes an extra $491.

Last week the New Zealand High Commission - London, United Kingdom marked a century since the opening of the No.1 New Zealand General Hospital in Brockenhurst. Over 21,000 New Zealanders were treated here throughout the First World War. 93 men are buried in the Commonwealth War Graves in the village. Every year the community remember them in a special service. This year a NZ stained glass window was unveiled at St Nicholas' Church, the oldest church in the New Forest. http://bit.ly/29ek79S

New Zealand has today been announced as the world's most prosperous country in the Legatum Institute 2016 Prosperity Index! This report goes beyond simple wealth, and looks at over 100 different measures of a country's well-being. What propelled NZ to the top? According to the report it was the strength of our society and personal freedoms, not wealth, which was behind NZ's first-place ranking: "The strength of the country’s social capital stands out like no other, underpinned by the Māori idea of society built around the whānau (family), hapū (community), and iwi (tribe). 99% of New Zealanders say they have relatives or friends to count on, the highest rate in the world."

Hot on the heals of other recent Kiwi filming success stories: How's this for ANZAC spirit - although The Light Between Oceans Movie (released yesterday here in the UK) is set in post-WW1 Western Australia, many of the most iconic scenes were filmed in New Zealand! As well as being filmed in Tasmania, the film's iconic lighthouse setting and surrounds are none other than the stunningly beautiful Cape Campbell in Marlborough! See if you can spot other distinctive NZ locations in the film - the Otago Peninsula, Port Chalmers and Dunedin all feature.

A group of scientists from New Zealand and Australia are working with the Department of Conservation to expand the breeding grounds of the Kakapo, New Zealand's endangered parrot. There are currently only 125 Kakapo living but with 33 new chicks born this year, there is an even greater need for new breeding grounds. So DoC and this group are investigating using Little Barrier Island as a new Kakapo sanctuary. To fund the early stages of their investigation, the group are seeking crowdfunding support - check the website for more details on how you can help!
