The Newfoundland and Labrador Environment Network is a charitable non-profit umbrella organization for environmental NGOs in the province. Our main mandate is environmental education and we work with many partners to carry out our objectives. We aim to educate the public on a diversity of timely and pressing environmental topics through events, publications and projects. MEMBERSHIP: Membership in the NLEN is open to non-profit organizations or associations based in Newfoundland and Labrador that hold environmental conservation and protection as an objective and who support the objective of the Network. Associations, agencies, individuals, for-profit businesses multi-stakeholder groups that do not meet the membership criteria and other groups that wish to support the activities of the Network may become Associates. New members are always welcome! Join here. GOVERNANCE: The NLEN is governed by a volunteer Steering Committee composed of 6-12 individuals who represent member organizations of the NLEN. The Steering Committee is selected at the NLEN’s Annual General Meeting by a vote of the membership. The NLEN bylaws outline the General Operating Procedures of the organization. HISTORY: The Newfoundland and Labrador Environment Network was established in 1990 and maintained a office in Corner Brook through the 1990s. In 2003, the office was moved to St. John’s (the Gathering Place, 172 Military Road), and in late 2011, we moved again to 342 Freshwater Road. At this new location, we share office space with two other environmental organizations. Membership in the NLEN has grown over the years to approximately 40 organizations at present.
