Glyn was London born of mixed Irish and West Indian parentage, his Father originating from Trinidad & Tobago. When growing up, it became the family custom for Sunday lunch to alternate between a Roast dinner one week, cooked by Mum, and a spicy Caribbean dish the next week, usually a curry, cooked by Dad. His Dad missed the hot and spicy cuisine of home and used to regularly travel to Brixton Market to buy hot Scotch Bonnet peppers with which he made his own Hot Pepper Sauce in the traditional “Trini” family way, where sauces vary in taste and ingredients slightly from family to family – but are all hot. Glyn was introduced to the hot sauce bug at a very young age and developed a passion for it, eventually being taught how to make it by his Dad, as a young man. In adulthood Glyn used to make Hot Pepper Sauce for his own use and would pass some to friends who loved the new taste – losing count of the times they would suggest that he ought to bottle and sell the sauce, due to its popularity. In early 2010 Glyn and his wife Caroline finally decided to give this a try, passing through the various legal hoops in order to produce the sauce for re-sale by August. Glyn nervously hoped that the sauce would be popular with the public but it was by no means certain, while Caroline invented the apt name of “Norfolk Heatwave”. Our local shop at that time, Weybourne Village Stores, kindly agreed to trial-sell the first batch of 10 bottles, offering tastings to customers, and all were sold within a couple of days! Glyn then ordered bottles, labels etc in larger quantities suited to expansion and within a year the sauce was stocked in 30+ retail outlets, sold direct by Glyn at several Farmers Markets and food events as well as online from this website. New products have been added to the list for sale including ultra-hot Certain Death and Green Jalapeno Chilli Sauce, but the original Hot Pepper Sauce remains popular, earning amazing world class reviews dropped into the website.
