Dear Friends and Colleagues, Welcome to the homepage of the North American Korean Philosophy Association (NAKPA). NAKPA is a non-profit organization founded in 2013 to bring together scholars from all over the world who share an interest in Korean philosophy, both traditional and contemporary, and to promote the study of Korean philosophy more generally. For this purpose, NAKPA supports conferences and other activities related to Korean philosophy. It also sponsors panels on Korean philosophy at annual meetings of the American Philosophical Association. In general, the study of philosophy is the attempt to understand the world in as unified and general a way as possible. Philosophers want to know what there is, how it works, how we know, how we should live, what is good, what is immoral, whether or not there is a God, and many, many other things as well--and, especially, how all these things fit together. One reason the study of philosophy is useful is that the methodology of philosophy--careful reasoning, precise application of logic, and thorough analysis of concepts--is applicable to any subject matter whatsoever. Philosophy pairs easily as a double major with many other disciplines. A minor in philosophy provides essential skills in logical reasoning and intensive writing that can enhance both your resume and your academic preparation. Some especially complementary majors : -Neuroscience -Physics -Political Science -Psychology Training in philosophy translates into skill sets that employers consider valuable. According to a 2011 study by Payscale.com, Philosophy majors had median starting salaries of $39,800 and median mid-career salaries of $75,600. Philosophy students pursue careers in law, business, information technology, public administration, social services, health care and criminal justice.
