The University
Northumbria University is based in the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It is spread over two campuses, City Campus and Coach Lane, both of which have recently undergone a £135m development and renovation.
City Campus West and the newly developed City Campus East are located in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, two minutes' walk from shops, bars, and clubs. Coach Lane is situated three miles outside the centre and can be accessed via the free university bus service.
Each site has its own accommodation and facilities. In September 2010 a brand new £32m Sports Facility opened at City Campus West.
The Location
Newcastle is renowned for its student vibe, with over 40,000 students studying in the city, it's no wonder MSN voted Newcastle as "UK's Best University City" in 2009 and in 2010. Whether you're into bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, museums, galleries or exploring the region's beautiful countryside and coastlines, there really is something for everyone.
Student Support
Northumbria offers a range of student support services to aid you throughout your university experience. These include financial advice, careers advice, study skills advice, childcare and disability support. Each student also has a personal guidance tutor to support them throughout the duration of their course.
Accommodation
Northumbria University can house most first year UK undergraduates from outside the local area and new overseas students who require accommodation and apply in good time. Some UK postgraduates can also be offered accommodation. Because priority is given to new students when offering University rooms, most second and third year students live in privately rented accommodation of which there is a plentiful supply in Newcastle.
University residences provide a great environment for UK and overseas students to mix. Students have a unique opportunity to develop culturally as well as academically, as there are students from around the world living in our residences
Students Union
Our Students' Union has been officially named as the UK's Union of the Year by the National Union of Students (NUS). The award came after a major campaign to increase involvement in student societies and community engagement and a multimillion pound refurbishment.
Not only does our Students Union have Habita - a stylish cocktail/coffee bar, but it offers a huge range of societies from poker to Japanese culture and even skydiving! If none of these take your fancy, then why not set up your own? Volunteer Northumbria and Give it a Go are amongst other activities organised by the union, all in hope to give you more opportunities and meet even more people.
