A small organisation in nottinghamshire managing the Nottingham Speakers Corner site on the Old Market Square. “Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you’ve got to say, and say it hot”. All users of the site are asked to stick to a few simple rules, these are: -Please don’t use offensive language. -Please respect alternative opinions. -Please show courtesy to other speakers and members of the public, including hecklers. -Please don’t use amplification. -Please respect other people’s right to speak and, if others are waiting, limit your time to a maximum of 10 minutes.

Description
The first Speakers’ Corner was established in Hyde Park, London almost 150 years ago. Nottingham is the first city, outside London, to have a Speakers’ Corner. The popularity and success of Speakers Corner is evident, as a Speakers’ Corner has since been launched in Lichfield in May 2009. Speakers’ Corner Trust is a national charity, which Nottingham Speakers’ Corner is affiliated to, and aims to promote freedom of speech, public debate and encourage citizenship, thus providing support for civil society both in the UK and emerging democracies. Nottingham Speakers’ Corner was originally launched in February 2008, and has since moved to its permanent site which was officially launched in February 2009 and is located at the bottom of King / Queen Street, in front of the Brian Clough statue. Nottingham Speakers’ Corner is free to use any time, is a platform for debate and gives local people the opportunity to discuss issues which matter to them, however speakers must operate within the law.
