What does it mean to be a student at Oak Tree High? أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلاً۬ كَلِمَةً۬ طَيِّبَةً۬ كَشَجَرَةٍ۬ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصۡلُهَا ثَابِتٌ۬ وَفَرۡعُهَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ (٢٤) تُؤۡتِىٓ أُڪُلَهَا كُلَّ حِينِۭ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهَا‌ۗ وَيَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَڪَّرُونَ (٢٥) “Have you not seen how Allah has given a parable? - A goodly word (kalimah Tayyibah) like a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the heavens. (24) Giving its fruit at all times, by the permission of its Lord and Allah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember”. (25) Surah Ibrahim Verses 24-25. The Kalimah Tayyibah is the 1st pillar of faith and the fundamental principle all Muslims live their lives by. In these verses the Kalimah Tayyibah is compared to a HEALTHY tree with STRONG foundations, while its branches REACH HIGH into the Sky. It SERVES the creatures around it by providing fruit. Finally Allah SWT encourages people to REFLECT and THINK CRITICALLY about these verses so that they may arrive at the TRUTH. What inspiration do we take from these verses? The above verses were the inspiration for choosing the name Oak Tree High School. These verses symbolise the principles which our school is built upon. These are the principles we expect all our students and staff to learn, teach, and live by. “A Goodly Word” We expect all our students and staff to speak in an honest and dignified and manner showing the best etiquettes at all times. The “Goodly Tree” This tree symbolises our staff and students: It is stands tall – this symbolises upright character, discipline and confidence of our students It has firm roots – this symbolises the solid academic, moral and spiritual foundations of our students Its branches reach high in to the sky – this symbolises the aspiration and ambition of our students for being the best that they can in everything they do. It gives its fruits at all times – this symbolises the helping and gentle nature of our students in caring for those around them and serving their communities. To Summarise… We are continuously encouraged by Allah in the Quran to reflect, think deeply, and think critically about the things around us. Similarly we want all our students to reflect and think deeply about the things they study with an inquisitive mind. We believe passionately in the importance of a good education for our future generations and want to create the next generation of brilliant minds. We believe a good education is not just about achieving excellence in academics but also achieving excellence in character. We believe in a holistic approach to education in which moral and spiritual growth is just as important as academic growth To achieve this we will do our very best to make sure students at Oak Tree High School achieve their maximum potential.
