Oakland High School Boys Basketball Team 1023 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland, CA 94610 Dear Alumni: Did you know that the Boys Basketball Team budget from the Oakland Athletic League is $0 for the 2014-2015 school year but our expenses will exceed $8,000? We need your help! Because of our reputation, accomplishments, and the dedication of our basketball players, we have been invited to play in 2 prestigious tournaments and 1 showcase this year. Our players are honored to have the opportunity to play in the Under Armour Holiday Classic in San Diego, the McDonald’s Classic Tournament in Stockton, and the Sac vs. Bay Showcase in Sacramento. We pride ourselves not only on the athletic performance of our players but our team’s commitment to academic excellence and we work hard to provide them with opportunities and exposure typically inaccessible to most inner-city students. Education is a cornerstone of our program and is evidenced by our Team GPA of 3.0 over the past 8 years. Attached is a list of former basketball players that have either completed their degrees or are currently enrolled in college many of these students were recruited at tournaments like these that we hope to attend this year. Participation in these tournaments will reward the hard work of our players and give them the opportunity to showcase their talents in competitive venues. Our basketball program relies heavily on donations from our alumni and the community at large. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to help us close the $7,550 budget gap. Your donation will be used for travel, lodging, and car rental expenses. More importantly with your help, our basketball players will be exposed to coaches and scouts with the ability to award scholarships and change lives! Donations of any size are appreciated. A $300 donation will cover the expenses of one student per tournament. Thank you for your consideration and support. We hope to see you at one of our games this basketball season. Please contact Coach Orlando Watkins (510-517-2659 or oaklandhighbasketball@gmail.com) or Coach William Lew (510-684-2754 or ohighbasketball@gmail.com) if you have any questions. All are invited to a March from Oakland High School to Ardley Avenue on Thursday night at 5:30pm. Wear bright colors and bring a ribbon to add to each of the bus poles if you wish. Let's make it "Rainbow Road". Following the March there will be a Party to complete with Rainbow Decorations and a spaghetti dinner to celebrate our diverse community and learn more about all of the spectrum of human diversity. Meet at the corner of Park and Macarthur and walk to Ardley Avenue. Party is one block away at the corner of Woodruff and Excelsior in the meeting space on the ground floor of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Come to the March only or the Party only if you wish. Just come!
