Parents who have the support of a doula are cared for in every way as they navigate that process. They’re comforted. They’re confident. They steer their own ship. Here’s what I believe: I believe the world needs more compassion and less judgement. I believe that all births are beautiful and all mothers are strong. I believe that fathers are capable and important and special. I believe that birth, pregnancy and parenting make us vulnerable and vulnerability gives us power. POWER. You don’t need me or anyone else to empower you. You have all the power, all the courage, all the strength and all the wisdom you will ever need. This begs the question: what can I offer you? The answer is simple: I’m a doula. I will support you. Think of me like a best friend for your pregnancy and birth. I’ll listen without judgement, provide unbiased information when you ask for it, and comfort you physically and emotionally throughout your labour and delivery. I’ll make sure you never lose sight of your power. Birth is a funny thing. We can’t predict what will happen or how we’ll feel about it. What I can promise is that I will devote myself to being what you need. Maybe I’ll hold your hand and whisper sweetly, “You’re amazing. This is beautiful. You’re doing great.” Maybe I’ll put on my game face, look you in the eye and push you to DIG DEEP and harness your strength when things get hard. Maybe I’ll guide you to connect with your inner voice when you need to make a tough choice. Maybe I’ll massage your back and hips to make your contractions more manageable, never leaving your side.
