Official American Paint Horse Association

at 2800 Meacham Blvd, Fort Worth , 76137 United States

We welcome you and your family to join ours as a great place to network with other APHA members and Paint Horse enthusiasts! http://join.apha.com The American Paint Horse Association, originally the American Paint Stock Horse Association, was founded in 1962 by a small group of visionaries who were captivated by the distinct blend of color and stock-type conformation unique to Paint Horses. Since those early days, Paint Horses have gained a following worldwide, and are now one of the most popular horse breeds in the world. In the same way that no two Paint Horse are exactly alike, the American Paint Horse Association is unlike any other equine organization. And while we are not the largest (or the smallest either), we are steadfast and proud of our heritage, our horses, our members and our future.

Description

Beginning with approximately 3,800 horses in the registry, over 1 million Paints are registered with the Association today. APHA ranks second in the number of horses registered annually in the United States, making it one of the largest horse breeds in the world. Although the APHA's primary mission is to record pedigrees, the association is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history, breeding, training, racing, showing, sales and enjoyment of American Paint Horses. More importantly, the heart of the APHA lies in its members, which is why the association strives to develop and sponsor programs that reflect their interests and their love of the American Paint Horse. The APHA's goal is to encourage American Paint Horse owners to find fulfillment with their horses in whatever activities they find most enjoyable, and to give members the opportunity to share in the pleasure of Paint Horses. To collect, record and preserve the pedigrees of American Paint Horses and to stimulate and regulate all matters that pertain to the promotion, history, breeding and exhibition of this outstanding breed.

General Info

The American Paint Horse's combination of color and conformation has made the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) the second-largest breed registry in the United States based on the number of horses registered annually. While the colorful coat pattern is essential to the identity of the breed, American Paint Horses have strict bloodline requirements and a distinctive stock-horse body type. To be eligible for registry, a Paint's sire and dam must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, or the Jockey Club (Thoroughbreds). At least one parent must be a registered American Paint Horse. To be eligible for the Regular Registry, the horse must also exhibit a minimum amount of white hair over unpigmented (pink) skin. Each Paint Horse has a particular combination of white and any color of the equine spectrum: black, bay, brown, roan, buckskin, dun, gray, grullo, perlino, smoky cream, chestnut, cremello, palomino, red dun, sorrel, or champagne. Markings can be any shape or size, and located virtually anywhere on the Paint's body. Although Paints come in a variety of colors with different markings, there are only three specific coat patterns: overo, tobiano and tovero. These colors, markings and patterns, combined with stock-type conformation, athletic ability and agreeable disposition, make the American Paint Horse an investment in quality.
