Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® works to protect, preserve, and improve the water quality of the Ogeechee River Basin by connecting people through engagement, education, and advocacy. Ogeechee Riverkeeper is a membership based organization with over 700 members who share our vision of a free-flowing clean Ogeechee river system.

Description

Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® works to protect, preserve, and improve the water quality of the Ogeechee River Basin. The Basin includes the Canoochee River and coastal rivers in southeast Georgia from Tybee Island to Sapelo Sound. We work with local communities to share and collect information on the ecological and cultural importance of rivers and streams throughout the Basin, and use that information to amplify the voices of those who speak for the watershed. We believe that people should be able to swim, boat, and eat fish from the headwaters to tidewaters of the Ogeechee without worrying about their own or their children's health! Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® is a WATERKEEPER® Alliance member. Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® works to protect, preserve, and improve the water quality of the Ogeechee River Basin.

Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® was formed in the merger of two dynamic river organizations, Canoochee RIVERKEEPER® and Friends of the Ogeechee in 2005. Originally formed as Ogeechee-Canoochee RIVERKEEPER® the organization shortened its name to Ogeechee RIVERKEEPER® in 2010.
