The Old Cliftonian Society (OCS) is the society for the alumni of Clifton College, Bristol - whether pupils or staff

Description

The Old Cliftonian Society is joined by the overwhelming majority of pupils who leave Clifton, indeed in most years, all do so. It is an independent organisation, founded well over 100 years ago, run by OCs for OCs, supporting the interests of the School by its two main remits. First, it works to facilitate contact and communication between Old Cliftonians and the School and with each other all round the world as part of the on-going Clifton community. Not only is this a thoroughly enjoyable social network but also a vehicle enabling valuable contacts to be made and links forged for on-going opportunity of all kinds. Secondly, its committee are the trustees of the Clifton College Endowment Fund, a registered charity the proceeds of which are used for the benefit of the School.

General Info

Worldwide, the Society is organised into over 50 regional branches, being especially active in the Middle East and Hong Kong, as well as Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada (2 branches), USA (2 branches), Moscow, South Africa and many other countries. The regional branch secretaries maintain strong contact with the main office in Clifton and thus up to date with their membership and current activities. The branches organise their own events, the frequency and nature of which vary according to local circumstances. In the UK, as well as 16 regional branches, there are a number of OC Sports Clubs: football, hockey, cricket, shooting, real tennis, rackets and others that may well be formed in the future. The Old Cliftonian Golfing Society is currently the most successful having won the prestigious Halford Hewitt and Grafton Morrish tournaments, the two leading Old School competitions, and being the first School to win them both in the same season in 2010. As with the branches, the sports clubs are run by great enthusiasts who are always on the look-out for new young talent. The OC Football Club is very active and begins its first season in the Bristol’s Downs League in 2011. The Society is always open to suggestion for forming new interest groups.
