A professional therapist can help you to kick-start a process of self-discovery and change. I will welcome you knowing that it may have taken a lot of courage to make contact. You will be invited to explore what you hide from others and from yourself. Becoming who we are means revealing all the parts of our self and having a look at them. It can mean having a dig around in our past and looking at our present with curiosity, to gently figure out what our options are at this point in our lives. What choices do we have? Can we respond differently? What is important to me? My approach I work from a humanistic-existential perspective to explore with you your unique way of being in the world. It's an approach that looks at how we impact our world and how our world impacts us. My own practice recognises the different ways we are affected by the world depending on our gender, ethnicity, 'race', age, class, disability, sexuality, culture, religion and class. Research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in effective therapeutic outcomes. This means that it is important you find a therapist you feel comfortable with.
