Tonight's speaker is Mr. College Football Tony Barnhart. We will honor players from Lake Mary, Faith Christian, Edgewater and Trinity Prep
For those who missed it, we had a great final meeting with Charles Davis of FOX Sports entertaining us. We honored Zander Zimmer from Bishop Moore as the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year and Jacques Patrick from Timber Creek as the 2014 Offensive Player of the Year. Photos will be on Facebook and the website www.orlandotdclub.com Also, Al “War Eagle” Brasher was crowned the 2014 Game of Skill champion. As Charles Davis pointed out, our club is like a family and all members make it possible for the club to create these great memories for these high school players. The appreciation from the players, their families, their coaches and their administrators expressed to me after the meeting is so gratifying. So thank you to all of you who make this club possible. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you.
NO MEETING THIS MONDAY A reminder that we have a gap of three weeks between last meeting and the final meeting. Final Meeting will be on Dec. 8 at Dubsdread with guest speaker Charles Davis. We will honor the high school players of the year on offense and defense. Nominations are still coming in for those two awards. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving from the Orlando Touchdown Club. Enjoy all the amazing football this week!!!
Don't forget that tonight's guest speaker is UCF Head Coach George O'Leary. He's been a guest of the Touchdown Club before and he is a great speaker. Special guest rate for the meeting -- only $25 instead of the normal $40. Also, anyone wearing UCF team attire only has to pay $20......now get those Knights to come join the fun.
OK, members and friends of the club, we want to see if UCF can beat FSU with the number of guests for Monday's meeting. At the special FSU meeting earlier this year with Gene Deckerhoff, we had 14 FSU guests in attendance wearing their garnet and gold. Now we challenge UCF to beat FSU and bring more guests. The special guest fee will be $25 instead of the normal $40 and the fee will be reduced to $20 if the guest wears UCF colors(preferably a real UCF logo). Please RSVP if you can so we can estimate on the food we need. But walk-ins are still welcome. We will be honoring Boone, Edgewater, Oviedo and Lake Nona(not the QB) on Monday, so invite your friends from those schools as well. Good luck to all of your teams this week.
Congratulations to War Eagle for starting this week's college football off with a nice win. Monday's meeting will feature Marc Daniels, the voice of UCF on the radio and the host of The Beat of Sports on 740 The Game at 9 a.m. to noon. We will be honoring players from Orangewood, University, Bishop Moore and Timber Creek on Monday so spread the word to the people you know from those schools to come out and support their award winners. We've had no UCF guests RSVP yet so please also encourage UCF Knights to try to beat FSU with the number of guests at Monday's meeting. The guest fee is $40 and will be applied to membership if you join.
Dear club members and friends of the club: 740 The Game and Mike Bianchi are stepping it up to help our club. The radio station is promoting the club with the information below to be read during the week. They plan to broadcast The Shot Doctor show on Monday from 3-6 so come out early and see the remote broadcast. They might want to interview you to tell them how much you already miss the Dartmouth Report. Next Monday will be our first meeting with high school award winners. We have some incredible award winners for the Week 1 games played last Friday night. Send me those RSVPs for your FSU guests. We already have more than 10 from Nole Nation coming. Regards, Robert W. High school football classics are this Friday and our first meeting is this coming Monday night. Mike Bianchi will be our leadoff speaker so come on out Monday at 5:30 for the social hour and dinner at 6:30. Program to start around 7:00. We will meet this entire fall season at Dubsdread's Tap Room restaurant on Par Avenue in College Park. Our Razorback member Steve Gunter is the owner of the Tap Room and has been very gracious in providing us with a great package to enjoy the fine food and facilities of the Tap Room. Please bring your $300 in annual dues($250 for under 40 youngsters) and bring a guest too for $35 for this first meeting. The guest fee can be applied to the membership if the person joins. We know there are lots of options for your leisure time and your money, but please join for the $300 fee so we can continue to do the great awards for the high school football players of the week. Please try to spread the word about our club so we can keep our membership level as strong as it has been over the past several years. See you on Monday night.
Dear club members and friends of the club: It is with great sadness that we pass along to everyone the passing of Woody Woodman. Woody loved our club and participated in The Game of Skill even as his health failed and he could not attend our meetings. Woody was a huge college football fan and loved his Alabama Crimson Tide. He got his law degree and his undergrad degree at Roll Tide University. He also cheered for Ole Miss when his grandson got a baseball scholarship there. Woody always kept things in perspective though and was a true gentleman and a lawyer’s lawyer. His son Doug Woodman is also a great member of our club so our sympathies go out to Doug and all of Woody’s family. Woody is already missed and leaves behind great memories that will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace. Rammer jammer, yellow hammer, give ‘em Hell Alabama!! With great sympathy,
Dear Members, This coming Monday is Meeting #2. Pat Dooley, top Gator columnist from the Gainesville Sun will be our speaker. I know there will be a buzz in the air! We will also have our second Marc Daniels report as well as begin our high school season. For WEEK ONE and TWO, our 4 award winning schools will be Timber Creek, Seminole, West Orange and Windermere Prep. It will be a fun night!!! Our first meeting on Aug. 31 was simply fabulous! With so many new members and guests in the room, we had very few vacant chairs. Let’s keep it going! That said, if you have any friends who want to come as a guest or as a NEW member, please send me your RSVP so we can plan accordingly. Since we now have SEVEN meetings left, any new member can join by taking $30 off his/her yearly membership fee. Please remember, it’s $300 for anyone 40 and older and $250 if you are younger. As always, the guest fee is $40. OK, we have heard numerous people say they would prefer NOT to have their personal e-mail addresses shown on each club e-mail OR they are simply not current members and don’t want to be bothered. We think we have corrected the problem. If you get this e-mail and wish to have your name deleted from our master list, please let me know. We will alert our web master and he will delete your name. Monday, Sept. 14 is almost here! Please know, we open the doors at 5:20, serve dinner at 6:00 and begin the meeting at 6:45. Our goal is to be done and have everyone on their way home by 8:15. See you all this Monday!!!
Dear Club Members - As many of you know, Rob Anthony and I have been overseeing the management of the Club together as co-Presidents for many years now. My initial term as President was in 1996, and Rob first served as President in 2004. It has truly been a labor of love for both of us, especially honoring the high school players and their coaches. Running the Club would not have been possible without the time and commitment of many other volunteers, including Paul Dumm, Greg “The Swede” Sahlsten, Jim Page, Bert Barclay, Rob Yacabucci, Steve Kurland, Scott Stowell, Steve Gunter, Chris Vella and Gig Sineni. There were certainly other members along the way who pitched in, and I apologize if I’ve left any names off this list. While Rob and I love the Club and will remain committed to doing our part to keep it going, we have decided that the time has come to turn the reins over to others. Gig Sineni has graciously agreed to increase his involvement and take over as President. Gig’s involvement has been significant in recent years, and we are confident that this will be a seamless transition. Rob and I will continue to assist Gig, but will defer to him on all aspects of managing the Club and will rely on him to solicit assistance from any other members he chooses to add to his Board of Directors. If you want to volunteer to help Gig, please let him know. We appreciate everyone’s support of the Orlando Touchdown Club while Rob and I were at the helm. Please join us in welcoming and supporting Gig Sineni as our new leader and President. Thanks, Vinny. Vincent M. D’Assaro, Esq.
On Monday we will have Gene Deckerhoff as our guest speaker and we already have about 12-15 reservations from Nole Nation. Special guest fee for this Monday only is $20. Normal guest fee is $40 for the rest of the year. We will also be honoring two high school players of the week. Winter Park and Oak Ridge will be our featured schools for Week 1 games where Winter Park defeated Lake Nona and Oak Ridge stopped powerhouse Apopka. Week 2 high school games are tonight and those schools will be honored at our meeting on Sept. 22 along with the Week 3 winners. The meetings are at Dubsdread this fall due to the construction at the Citrus Bowl. Social hour is at 5:30; dinner at 6:30 and the program starts around 7:00. The Swede will be back with the results from the first Game of Skill challenge. Good luck to all of your teams this weekend, even though not much luck is needed against cupcakes for many of you. See you on Monday night. Again, if you will be bringing guests, please let me know so we can estimate the food needs. Cheers, Robert W. Anthony
