Our Pack was one of the organizations to take a Michael Vick dog from the case in 2007. His name was Leo and he became a certified therapy dog within 5 weeks after arriving to Our Pack. http://www.ourpack.org/leo.html Our Pack has since taken dogs from dog fighting cases throughout the country including the largest case in U.S. history, known as the Missouri 500, in 2009. Our Pack also assisted with the rescue coordination efforts in that case as well as had volunteers go out to provide enrichment for the dogs. Many of the dogs taken by Our Pack from these cases also became therapy dogs. We have focused our support on local shelters by taking in dogs from these shelters as well as providing training, education and support for their adopters to help ensure successful adoptions. We continue to offer training for volunteers of shelters on kennel enrichment and handling skills to help provide a happier environment for dogs while they wait for their forever homes. Our Pack also continues to offer free lectures to the public all around the Bay Area. We offer Leash Manners classes at low cost for people and their dogs every week in Los Gatos and Los Banos, CA (free for Our Pack volunteers, volunteers of the Humane Society Silicon Valley and Our Pack adopters). All breeds are welcome. www.ourpack.org/classes.html At present one of Our Pack's main aims is keeping dogs from entering shelters in the first place, or being returned to shelters. We offer pet retention/owner support programs such as free spay/neuter, training and education for adopters and owners that are having training issues or are thinking of surrendering their dog. Many more lives have been saved through these pet retention and owner support efforts. We have now noticed another dog that is beginning to show up more and more in shelters. The Chihuahua and their mixes. We work to discourage any discrimination of any breed of dog through advocacy and education. Our Pack also offers free spay/neuter for the homeless at HomeFirst homeless shelter where they allow dogs, as well as members of the public that are homeless or need assistance. We are open to all breeds.

Description

We are a 501c3 non-profit pit bull & Chihuahua rescue group based in the South San Jose Bay Area. Our Pack was one of the orgs to take a Michael Vick dog from the case in 2007. His name was Leo and he became a certified therapy dog within 5 weeks after arriving to Our Pack. http://www.ourpack.org/leo.html Our Pack has since taken dogs from dog fighting cases throughout the country including the largest case... in U.S. history in 2009. Our Pack also assisted with the rescue coordination efforts in that case. Many of the dogs taken by Our Pack from these cases are also therapy dogs. We focus our support on local shelters that are overwhelmed on a continual basis by taking in dogs from these shelters as well as providing training, education and support for their adopters. Our Pack also offers free lectures on pit bulls & Chihuahuas to the public all around the SF bay area through these shelters as well as assist Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) and San Jose Animal Care with socializing and training shelter dogs. Our Pack offers Leash Manners classes at low cost for people and their dogs every week in Los Gatos, CA (free for Our Pack vols, hssv vols with shelter dogs and Our Pack adopters). All breeds are welcome. www.ourpack.org/classes.html One of Our Pack's aims is keeping dogs from entering shelters or being returned to shelters through training and education for the general public, adopters and owners that are having training issues or are thinking of surrendering their dog. Many lives have been saved through these efforts. We have now noticed another dog that is beginning to show up more and more in shelters. The Chihuahua and their mixes. They are also discriminated against, as well. Our Pack feels that if we advocate for one type of dog due to discrimination, then we must advocate for other dogs that are suffering from the same problem. We love pit bulls but our advocacy is about stopping discrimination of any breed of dog. If we want pit bulls to be free from discrimination, we must want that for all dogs. We also work with HomeFirst. The only homeless shelter for people that allows pets. We offer free spay/neuter and vaccines for these dogs. Our pack offers multi-pronged assistance programs for shelters, potential adopters, adopters as well as members of the public that need assistance. Our Pack's mission is to keep dogs from entering shelters by providing free spay/neuter, education, training, rescue and post adoption support, facilitating the lifelong bond between dogs and their people.
